My heart was pulled
Into yours –
It awoke
Fallen into an embrace
Held
Tightly in your arms
At peace and
At home.
My heart was adrenaline
Lifting cars
A superhero
In my chest …
It beat complete.
“Don’t!”
I am rebuffed
“No!”
Your tongue slapped
Conversations closed
Connections
Lost
“You shouldn’t”
And I fall backwards
Into youth
Scorned and chastised
Rejected
… again.
“I need you”
To be here forever
“Hold me”
To be as one
“I miss you”
To be where I am not
“You’re special”
To be accepted.
My body salivates
I can taste your love
In my ears
Honeycomb drips
I melt
Golden
Pulled close
… wanted.
You pull away
My fingers touch
Emptiness
Eyes abandon
I am not seen
Pushed into a doorway
Footsteps
Pass me by
A door closes
My heart is slammed.
I run
I rush the pain
With speed
I break the tape.
First out …
… first alone.
Broken
Silent
Abandoned
Disappointed dreams
My heart falls.
The Music is paralyzed
The rhythm stops
The chambers now empty
Arteries –
Dried up riverbeds.
I fall into
Shadow
My heart is homeless
… and cry.

I really like the metaphor of “Arteries – Dried up riverbeds”

Thank you. That’s kind of you to share. They are both conduits for life … so it made sense to me.
