Oh, you, breaker of hearts,
you awaken my palate with burgundy kiss
fill my glass with celebration
but just as often rot … just within reach
sweet fruit for yellow jackets who
suckle upon your tightly packed vines.
Oh, you, breaker of hearts
I salivate waiting for your mineral kiss
soft soft soft upon my tongue tonight
your barnyard vapours swirl the air
your cherries and fruit tantalize
a seductive lover stroking my hair.
Oh, you, breaker of hearts
you promise a marriage with your kiss
yet shyly hidden beneath your thin skin
sensitive to criticism and infection
a minx of a mistress — with the right tenderness
your spirit is unbroken and bold.
Oh, you, breaker of hearts
I am Eros filled by your Psyche’s kiss
you give birth to art and poetry
a fragment of eternity in a master’s stroke
the texture of heaven reflected in garnet
a passionate regent’s destiny discovered in life.

Today’s prompt: Today, I challenge you to write a poem that uses the form of a list to defamiliarize the mundane: from these seemingly simple ingredients, construct a poem that is luminously, joyously weird.
