Travel Into that Good
Light
Dale Schierbeck
Down down, travel into that good light
Our youth burnished new with the rising day
Run,run away from the birth of the night.
Tangled in the ignorance of the fight
Between a divide and an entrance way
Down down, travel into that good light.
Good dog, loyal and following my sight
Trusted faithful sitting on the morning ray
Run, run away from the birth of the night.
Woman who captured hearts when moment right
And fashioned forgiveness, sending grief away
Down, down, travel into that good light.
Gave me a life, a furry torch burning bright
Burning eyes return vision, sit and stay,
Run, run away from the birth of the night.
And you, my companion, with you I might
Cure, bless, me now with your fierce love, I pray,
Down down, travel into that good light
Run,run away from the birth of the night.

Submitted as part of “National/Global Poetry Writing Month” (#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo).
Today’s prompt: Day Five: find a poem, and then write a new poem that has the shape of the original, and in which every line starts with the first letter of the corresponding line in the original poem.
Author’s Note: As you’ll see, I chose Dylan Thomas “Don’t not go gentle into that good night” as my inspiration.
