Love is a bowl of morning latte
hot and waiting
set quietly on a bedside table
Love is the cradle of a lap, fallen into
on a Friday night overcome
with the weariness of a week
spent separately together
Love is the warmth of a blanket
draped warm around your shoulders,
comforted, watching an Atlantic sunset
Love is a bag of jujubes purchased
spontaneously in a checkout with milk
placed upon your lips on a romcom night
Love is the quiet of a hand
emerging from a silent nowhere
to stroke the brunetteness of your hair
Love is a celebration, a crowd of one
doing the wave at the end of the driveway
as you complete your half-marathon
Love is a homecoming from work
to find your suitcase packed
and a traced roadmap with a heart upon it
Love is standing close under an umbrella
discovering new music together
Love is sowing a garden
making holes, imagining their colour
Love is quiet
felt without a word.
