The play of depth of field in balance with one of the deepest depressions in North America seemed an ‘obvious’ choice for this particular challenge. While it is the width of the lens and the photo that is really at work, the effect is an incredible depth of field that just draws me in further and further each time I look at it. I’m curious, though, is the effect greater in colour or in the high contrast of black and white?
You be the judge ….

These are both gorgeous but I say the black and white has more impact on the perception of depth and contrast. When I opened your post on my phone I could only see the clouds before I scrolled down. I thought “wow, what is that? Smoke from an explosion or major fire? Clouds?” You don’t get precisely the same texture and ‘pop’ from the colour. But it is beautiful in its own striking way. Very nice and brings back lots of good memories for me. 🙂

Thank you Jessica. Yes, a beautiful place on this earth filled with many great memories for many. And, yes, I think the black and white accentuates the contrast in the clouds more than anything which is why it works differently on the eye ….

It is so much more stunning in the black and white! The colour one is beautiful but the B&W just draws you in…

Glad the picture had some “stun-factor” in it. 🙂
