I’m reading this well after the fact, but it feels like a Christmas present to encounter this poem, these pictures, and this exchange.

Thank you John — it is touching to know that these posts, poems, and photos are themselves corded-“children” set free into the world … and how incredibly flattering when they come “home” to spread the story of their travels and of what they have touched. A warm smile of gratitude returned. Thank you again and a very merry Christmas to you in return.

Thank you Rocio. It was a fun, impromptu photo shoot. The best kind. I love your family pictures as well. Beautiful. Thanks for stopping by….

Thank you for this, sweetheart. On my baby’s first day of JK, this warmed my own heart, which is both smiling and aching today. Thank you for sharing this, writing a poem that shows you understand, and for being a golden thread that connects all three of us. <3

🙂 You’re welcome, my love. It is what I see — my best perspective on his joining kindergarten this morning is that the cord that connects you both has been lengthened, not broken, as he gains a bit more of his independence on his continued path of development. A proud day to be sure. Glad I can be part of many days, like that pictured, connected if not by arms, then at least by my eyes and lens.
