My heart breaks the wind
Holds permanent time for you
Sweeps your eyes for the sky.
My back holds our rings
Ripples ridge my strength for you
Lift your lips to my kiss.
I move and remain
Carve my body with a lover’s touch
Fall upon your fingers.
My hand is my love
Fluid within ocean’s push
Yearning for you I reach.
This a first for me, but I wanted to share the inspiration for both poem and pictures and why I’ve chosen to submit them both in support of this week’s theme: boundaries. The sand dunes on the Magdalen Islands and, indeed, in many places are a boundary between ocean and land … a kind of ‘limbo’ that shifts and moves as the waves and wind seek to lay claim to the land itself. Time sweeps the sands, sifts minerals from it, leaves its marks and textures. The dunes bend and move but ultimately remain …. The tufts of grass, innocuous and more plentiful as you move further inland are the roots of a world struggling to survive. I was fascinated by this living, undulating, piece of land and, when I touched it, it moved … as you can see. Somehow, this fragile thing that is always moving still personified for me a strength and I thought of love … and indeed, my love for Jessica herself. I may not be granite and, indeed, I may flow like our lives and move like the sand itself … but like the dunes, there is a resilience and strength and in that movement there holds the imprint of my love, always there.

I will never forget that day. I’m glad you’re not granite – you are soft and flexible and yet strong and consistent…as a whole, you have a clear identity, purpose and I can always rely on you to be there. You are multifaceted and unique in your every fiber (grain)…and gold is to be found among them. You are beautiful – thank you for seeing nature’s minuscule magnificence and exploring it all with me . 🙂
