You are My State of Mind
You kiss me
and I am a teenage boy being kissed for the first time
You laugh
and my world becomes a 70s rerun laughing on the carpet
You hug me
and I am an astronaut finding the cure for cancer on top of Everest
You shine desire
and my world becomes a stolen Playboy magazine from my father’s closet
You touch me
and my body is one returned from a day of skiing and sunk into a bubble bath
You breathe on me
and I am in my grandmother’s garden rustling the lavender
You snuggle close
and I am home on a sheepskin rug, with my dog, in front of a fire I built
You whisper I love you
and my world lacks hunger, sleep, and responsibility
I see you through a window
… my every state of mind.
