You are my future*, fast and fit:
Standing still — running into revelry
You’re dancing dirty — a dervish in a circle, ours
Firm upon a cliff — climbing a mountain, steep
We’re cycling — feasting along the Loire
Jumping for joy — flung into arms, yours forever
Striding across the sea — sinking into sand
We’re playing tennis — love 30 times a lotus
Agility anew — bending into downward dog
Cradled in my lap — you’re curled upon a couch
We’re cross-country skiing — criss-crossing winter
You’re in high-heels — turning heads with strength
A bride taking her future — a final step to happiness.”
∗ Written on the eve of my future wife’s knee surgery. May tomorrow bring a future wished — a future without pain; a future filled with possibility.
