Hobbled by a rugby scrum
Halted by the surgeon’s drum
You drag, you limp, you fight
You struggle with all your might
Determined to walk without a brace
You make physio a sprint to race
Stretching, bending, building strong
Pushing through pain all day long
Your need for help hurts your pride
Vulnerability affixes me to your side
Dreams seem distant swept by fears
Partners we become for all our years
Defiance your heart propelled by crutches
Your heart a beacon, ignited and matchless,
Weakness, wobbles, they feel your wrath
The fog is parted, you see the path
Stairs, a canyon, become steps today
Stronger still, day by day,
Striding forward, you are my guide,
To dance a marriage … my hero my bride.
