Above ground the clouds circled
Below ground the waters came
Caught in the cracks of the walls
Down to the foundation through soaked
Earth with sorrow and sadness while
Fear and anxiety gathered in the storm
Giving pause for personal reflection
Held hostage in the core of yesterday’s
Interior locked in its shadows,
Jailed behind doors left open to
Karma to deliberate, yes or no,
Liberation or languishment and
Moulding to the calcified concrete
Normalized neglect, hurting at the
Oppression opening a rescuing hand
Pressing protection by the calloused
Quiet of a calm before the storm of
Revolution, raining down, a deluge
Streaming, overfilling gutters, engulfing
Torrents of regret, a lazy, decent into fall
Unmet by shoulds, coulds, woulds, of
Vacancies amplified as pitched volumes
Wandering as drip, drips upon my ear
Xenophobic to their slippery purchase
Yet welcoming of their rhythm, striking
Zero failure into the possible, between pauses.

Submitted as part of “National/Global Poetry Writing Month” (#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo).
Today’s prompt: write an abecedarian poem – a poem in which the word choice follows the words/order of the alphabet. You could write a very strict abecedarian poem, in which there are twenty-six words in alphabetical order, or you could write one in which each line begins with a word that follows the order of the alphabet.
