Lost starving in an iron labyrinth of kiosks
Found darting through the scurry of strange feet
Lost to the offer of escape
Found staring through the open door
Lost your fear
Found my playfulness
Lost a country
Found a home
Lost a mother
Found resilience
Lost your place sleeping at my feet
Found your way spooning into my heart
Lost the stereo of your sight
Found my devotion and sacrifice
Lost the chase
Found peace in our bond
Lost the lustre of your health
Found the nourishment of my hearth
Lost a final season
Found a forever sunrise
Lost your leash upon this world …
lost the licking of my plate
lost the greeting of my return
lost your clicks hard upon the floor
lost the brightness of my shore.
Found my forever love
Found the tap of constant sorrow
Found the goodness of my heart
Found our granite of memories shared
Found my heart’s open door …
Found my chance to love once more.

Oh the bitter sting I feel whenever you mention the feet clicking on the floor. Whoever would have thought that it was secretly one of the sweetest songs on Earth.
Truly … and while sad, there is certainly solace to reflect on these “little” things that made the bonds so palpable and real. It is why the love will endure.
Ben is absolutely adorable; aww, just look at those big eyes.
I’m so glad that you two have found each other. Furthermore, the poem is tremendously touching –a great example of repetition in poetry.
Thank you Ramisa — Ben really was the love of my life. He found me; found my heart … and now I’ve lost him but he’s found a way deeper in. It’s from that place that I write. I’m glad my little experiment with the couplets and repetition worked. Thank you again.
A clever, imaginative, and truly hilarious bit of writing. Thank you for brightening my own day. Steve sounded awesome!
