A simple ship, a simple ferry … plying passage from Souris, Prince Edward Island, to the Îles–de–la–Madeleine, this 34 year old vessel had photographic interest in many places. Shapes, textures, contrasts … there was much to behold as we made our crossing. All text and images © Dale Schierbeck More photos from EatsWritesShoots here.
Off-Season
On our recent trip to the Îles de la Madeleine, and on a grey Father’s Day afternoon, Jessica and visited a little town called Fatima and from there took a walk on the local beach (Plage du Nord). As we arrived in the parking lot, however, we were presented with as out-of-place a vision as…
Happy Canada Day
The first of a series taken on my recent exploration of the Îles-de-la-Madeleine … what better way than to start with a photo of a flag from the ship’s mast on this day of Canada’s birth.
Ale No. 7 ~ “Corps Mort” (American Barley Wine) À l’abri de la Tempête Microbrasserie
For the final beer in the Ales Bells series, I reached deep into my fridge to pull out a bottle that has sat there for 20 months. Yes, 20 months! Trust me when I say that this wasn’t a mistake and I knew what I was doing … or at least I presumed that I knew…
“Palabre du Cloporte” (Black IPA), À l’abri de la Tempête
With a winter storm approaching the Ottawa Valley, spring seems more than a few days away … but given that I over-indulged in my purchase of “winter beer” at my last trip to BroueHaHa, I could use a few more weeks of winter to get through my “drinking list.” I’m also still working through the…
“Écume” (“Lager”), À l’abri de la Tempête
This beer drinking is becoming a full time job … or fulltime hobby, at least. Thank god for spinning! I figured I’ve picked up enough momentum that I should continue to work through the rest of my beer list for À l’abri de la Tempête – and experience the full range of their brewing abilities. Next…
“Belle Saison” (“Blonde”/Pale Ale), À l’abri de la Tempête
Back to beer … and a return to a beer that, in particular, was seminal in getting this blog started; a beer I’ve mentioned, but not yet reviewed. It was also the first beer that I drank from BroueHaHa where I purchased it. The reason I selected this one was because at $6 for a regular sized…
“Terre Ferme” (“IPA”), À l’abri de la Tempête
I must admit, with the ongoing search in the wintry Atlantic for the missing crew of the capsized Miss Ally, this beer and the poignancy of its brand takes on a whole new relevance these days. If one ever needed shelter from the storm, À l’abri de la Tempête, this crew certainly needs it. My…
“Corne de Brume” (Scotch Ale), À l’abri de la Tempête
Here’s a brewery, À l’abri de la Tempête, that I’ve been tantalizingly saving to re-explore since I tasted one of the most striking beers of my life: that beer was La Belle Saison. Based on the two I’ve now tasted, this is an amazing brewery and one which is all the more impressive owing their location. The…
