Rarities and Roof-sides

August 21, 2016 by Dale 8 Comments

Rarity -8

Rarities perched upon a rooftop
Chance caught in Fortune Bay
Hanging by my feet over an afternoon
A moment earned upon cedar shingles
Magic in macro, lipstick on life
A sage forest, a bright fairyland.”

What wonders grow in places we never think to look. Hanging off the railing of a 100 year-old turreted inn, I spied the most marvelous lichen/moss growing and blooming upon the dying cedar shingles that, as we sat, were being replaced across the the roofs of the Prince Edward Island inn.

Wonderful depth of field on these shots. I try to shoot moss and lichen but stooping over, crouching or laying on the ground and my bad eyes deter my efforts. I’m assuming these guys were at your eye level as you hung from a ladder?

In my mind I’m hearing that hip hop tune, “Party on the Roof”.

Thank you for your thoughtful and kind words. Yes, getting down low was the secret in the depth of field and vantage. Never easy to do and hard to do 3 stories up hanging over the ledge of a wooden balcony (I forgot to include the photo in the first edit but have since added into the post) with my knees holding me on the railing while chest spread one the shingles and I did my ablest to focus on the different heads of lichen. I wish I’d had my stamina to have lingered longer, but it was a stretch, to say the least, to get the photos I got. 🙂

Nice capture. This is why it is important to live in the moment so you don’t miss the hidden gems.

Thank you, Sandy. A mantra I fully hold as well as I strive to live and experience the splendid details in every moment.
