Quaffing a quince on golden shores
a sunkist orange torn into spray
citrus peels punch and pry
fingers pressed in Nutella jar
sipping freshly ground cappuccino
coffee house cream stuck on lips
grapefruit pith amber burns
a Szechuan pepper full of earth
spicy chilli pressed by sun
mowed grass upon the dew
pricking needles bark sap stick
wildflowers kissed on lover’s clouds
baked bread of lavender rosemary
seeds of cardamom anise clove
trapped by a touch of religion
roasting chestnuts crack and spit
a brown rice steams too long
melting chocolate drips fondue
lambic berries caught in kiss
bite puckered buds of roses done
pistachios sprinkled on biscotti
sweet banana splits
smokey herring drinks the sea
tequila shots chased by lime and salt
a Bounty bar melts in your car
crème brûlée cracks beneath
a spoonful of steelcut oats
mangoes drip from our chins
titillated by a passion’s fruit
painting portraits on my tongue.
