Your Tail Curls Me Round

April 26, 2021 by Dale 5 Comments

A morning bed, a head that yearns
Makes my back burn
With your body that yearns
Makes my back, makes my back burn

Your panting a daily reprise
My awakening you baptize
And your panting a daily reprise
Keeps me alive, keeps me alive

You curled
Oh, the world curls around
Your tail unfurled around, ah
Unfurled, bangs me down

On my head, that tailed unfurled
Makes my back burn
With each wiggle you turn
Makes my back, makes my back burn, grrr
Hey, you, hey stop that you, hey

My awakening you baptize
The yearning in your eyes, keeps me alive
Turns this restful bed into a bestiary
Turns this lovers’ bed into a monastery

And the world, the world curls around
And world, and your tail, your tails bangs me down
And your fur unfurled, your tail uncurled, the world turns around
And your tail, and your curl, your tail my world curls around
Your tail turns me round

Ah, hey yeah, hey yeah
And your tail (hey yeah, ha), and your curl turns around (hey stop that yeah)
Unfurled my world opens there (hey yeah, hey)
Uncurled it lifts me up (ha, ha, yeah)
And the world (oh, yeah, yeah)
Yeah, the world comes around (oh yeah, yeah)
And the world, and it’s all uncurled (oh yeah, yeah), the uncurled, it lifts me up (ha, ha, yeah)

Yeah hey, hey yeah
Every morning, hey,
Sanctuary, stay.

Submitted as part of “National/Global Poetry Writing Month” (#NaPoWriMo #GloPoWriMo).

Today’s prompt:  Day Twenty-Six:  “Today, I’d like to challenge you to write a parody. Besides being fun, writing parodies can be a great way to hone your poetic skills – particularly your sense of rhyme and sound, as you try to mimic the form of an existing poem while changing the content. Just find a poem – or a song – that has always annoyed you, and write an altered, silly version of it. Or, alternatively, find a poem with a very particular rhyme scheme or form, and use that scheme/form as the basis for a poem that mocks something else.”

Author’s Note: To add some randomness to this challenge, instead of choosing an annoying song or piece, I committed to turning on the radio and choosing the very first song I heard for this. For those that need a hint, it is “She Sells Sanctuary” by The Cult, which is a song I have long loved. But I admit, I don’t know I’ll be able to listen to it quite the same way ever again.

Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it — it was a challenge that produced one of my more fun and silly poems which somehow still feels just perfect. I know I loved writing it too ….

If I could sing, I would have loved to sing my version to the music … “IF”

Glad you enjoyed it. It was kind of fun to write once I found the door in ….
