Magdalen Dunes and Two Bikes

July 13, 2015 by Dale 4 Comments

A day at the beach among the dunes … we soon discovered that there was nary turn along the islands that didn’t hold beauty and wonder …. Unfortunately, the dunes and the incredible sand beaches aren’t exactly meant for road bikes but that didn’t stop us from carrying them and exploring anyway.   All text…

Eye Spy with My Ship’s Eye

July 7, 2015 by Dale Leave a Comment

From the Bridge

A simple ship, a simple ferry … plying passage from Souris, Prince Edward Island, to the Îles–de–la–Madeleine, this 34 year old vessel had photographic interest in many places. Shapes, textures, contrasts … there was much to behold as we made our crossing. All text and images © Dale Schierbeck More photos from EatsWritesShoots here.

Door to the World

July 4, 2015 by Dale 1 Comment

greek door

So many photographers, myself included, are fascinated with doors. Doors are expressions of culture. Architectural flourishes, they are among the final touches on a building, the architectural equivalent of the cover of a book, and many will consider them carefully as expressions of what might lie within. Doors are symbolic, like walls (previously described), as…

Off-Season

Off-Season

On our recent trip to the Îles de la Madeleine, and on a grey Father’s Day afternoon, Jessica and visited a little town called Fatima and from there took a walk on the local beach (Plage du Nord). As we arrived in the parking lot, however, we were presented with as out-of-place a vision as…

Wall of Light and Colour …

March 17, 2015 by Dale 5 Comments

Brettos Bar

Walls can be constructed of almost anything and in their construction they are a way and an end. Between two neighbours, they are a boundary. Set low, they create pathways. Built high, strewn with razor wire, they are borders between ideology. Built beneath, they project edifices into the sky and remind us of our power….

Depth of Fall

January 31, 2015 by Dale 7 Comments

The play of depth of field in balance with one of the deepest depressions in North America seemed an ‘obvious’ choice for this particular challenge. While it is the width of the lens and the photo that is really at work, the effect is an incredible depth of field that just draws me in further…
