I hear your call —
beneath pink blossoms
I fell in
love
among your pollen
listening to your voice
singing
You belong among the wildflowers
you pressed into
your longing
face
you closed your eyes
inhaled
the fragrance
we shared —
I whispered back
behind
a hidden tree
I have seen no other
Who compares with you
cradled in a drape of blue
I crave you
only you
your smile for
me
hold me
in a blossom pink
a centre open
upon a limb
facing the sun
You belong somewhere you feel free
speak
spread your mouth
upon the wind
say it
sing it
run away
marry me your
chords
petals chime upon my cheek
here’s my key
notes cast
an infant made
leaves play in my chest
a garden planted
melody moves
bark becomes a staff
softly
humming
a solo flight
a parent we will bury
your tone and timber
fall
an earworm
embedded
conversations all
you speak our life
I hear your call
you belong in that home
say my name
I hear your call.

Submitted as part of “National Poetry Writing Month – 2017” (#NaPoWriMo2017). Today’s prompt: write a poem that incorporates overheard speech. It could be something you’ve heard on the radio, or a phrase you remember from your childhood, even something you overheard a coworker say in the break room! Use the overheard speech as a springboard from which to launch your poem.
